How to clean a carpet

To clean a carpet, here are two effective methods that you can use depending on the products you have at your disposal: soap water or Marseille soap.

Method 1: Cleaning with soap water

  1. Preparation:
    • Fill a basin with warm water.
    • Add a few drops of dishwasher liquid and mix until a light foam is obtained.
  2. Cleaning:
    • Move a soft-haired brush into the soap solution.
    • Brush the carpet gently by making circular movements in it to avoid damaging the fibers.
  3. Rinse:
    • Rinse the carpet with clear water to remove soap residues. You can use a clean, wet cloth to help remove the soap.
  4. Drying:
    • Spit out excess water with clean towels.
    • Let the carpet dry outdoors or use a hair dryer in cold mode to speed up drying.

Method 2: Soap cleaning of Marseille

  1. Preparation:
    • Aspire the carpet first to remove dust and dirt.
    • If you are using solid Marseille soap, grind about one tablespoon in cups. If you have ready-to-use chopsticks, measure one tablespoon
    • Dissolve the soap in a liter of warm water, stirring until completely dissolved.
  2. Cleaning:
    • Apply the soap solution to the areas to be cleaned with a soft hair brush.
    • Gently rub with circular movements to get the soap into the fibers.
  3. Rinse:
    • Use a clean, wet cloth to rinse the cleaned areas, thus removing soap residues.
  4. Drying:
    • Spit out excess water with clean towels.
    • Let the carpet dry outdoors, in a well-ventilated place.

These methods are soft and effective for cleaning carpets while preserving their fibers. Choose the one that best suits the products you have at hand.

To extend the life of your carpet, follow these maintenance tips:

  • Regularly vacuum to remove dust and dirt. Be careful not to use the rotary brush, especially on long-haired carpets, to avoid damaging the fibers.
  • Natural drainage: It is normal for your carpet to lose fibers at first use, a phenomenon known as draining. Do not rub the carpet to speed up this process, it would only make the problem worse.
  • Do not shoot on the wire: If you notice a wire exceeding the carpet, do not pull it, as this could cause more damage. Instead, use scissors to cut the wire at the surface level.
  • Turn the carpet: To distribute wear evenly, think about turning your carpet when you think it is necessary. This prevents some areas from collapsing faster than others due to frequent passage.
  • Use anti-slip under your rug: Place your carpet on the anti-slip to improve its stability and comfort. It also helps to prevent slipping and protects the carpet from excessive wear. By following these tips, you will keep your carpet in good condition and extend its life.
